In recent years, CBD (cannabidiol) has become a buzzword in wellness circles, touted for its potential health benefits ranging from anxiety relief to pain management. It’s essential to understand what CBD is, how it works, and what to consider before incorporating it into your routine. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the world of CBD.

Understanding CBD:

CBD is one of over a hundred compounds found in the cannabis plant, known as cannabinoids. Unlike its counterpart THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it doesn’t produce the “high” associated with marijuana use. Instead, it interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). This regulates various physiological processes such as mood, appetite, pain sensation, and immune response.

Types of CBD:

  1. Full-spectrum CBD: Contains all the naturally occurring compounds found in the cannabis plant, including cannabinoids, terpenes, and trace amounts of THC (less than 0.3% in accordance with legal limits). This type of CBD is believed to offer enhanced therapeutic benefits due to the synergistic interaction of these compounds, known as the entourage effect.
  2. Broad-spectrum CBD: Similar to full-spectrum CBD but with THC removed entirely. It still contains other cannabinoids and terpenes, offering potential benefits of the entourage effect without the risk of psychoactive effects from THC.
  3. CBD isolate: Pure CBD extracted from the plant with all other cannabinoids and compounds removed. It’s often preferred by those who want to avoid any trace of THC or other cannabinoids.

Dosage Strength:

Determining the right dosage of CBD can be challenging. It varies depending on factors such as individual body chemistry, weight, metabolism, and the condition being treated. It’s recommended to start with a low dose and gradually increase until you achieve the desired effects. Most CBD products come with dosage recommendations on the label, but it’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice.

For example, a study indicated that for humans there are many variables but it should sit anywhere between 20-1,500mg. This will depend on the strength of the oil you are taking. 500mg oil means that each drop is 2.5mg of CBD. 1000mg oil is 5mg per drop & 1500mg is 7.5mg per drop. We recommend people to take 2-3 drops twice or three times a day. This will be a decent intake of CBD that your body can quickly get adjusted to, which then allows you to customise your regime. For example, if you are taking CBD for sleep it makes sense to consume it before you go to bed.

Specific Regimens:

  1. Anxiety and Stress Relief: Many people use CBD to alleviate symptoms of anxiety and stress. Studies suggest that CBD may help by interacting with serotonin receptors in the brain, which regulate mood and emotions. For anxiety relief, consider starting with a low to moderate dose of CBD oil or capsules taken daily.
  2. Pain Management: CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties make it a popular choice for managing chronic pain conditions such as arthritis, migraines, and neuropathic pain. Topical CBD creams or ointments can be applied directly to the affected area, while oral consumption of CBD oil or capsules may provide systemic relief.
  3. Sleep Support: CBD has shown promise in promoting better sleep quality and relieving insomnia symptoms. By interacting with receptors in the brain that regulate the sleep-wake cycle, CBD may help improve sleep patterns. Consider taking CBD oil or capsules an hour before bedtime to facilitate relaxation and promote restful sleep.

Before incorporating CBD into your wellness routine, it’s essential to educate yourself about the different types of CBD, dosage considerations, and potential benefits for specific health conditions. It is important to understand what symptoms you are trying to alleviate & which forms of CBD & dosages would best suit you. While CBD shows promise in various areas of health and wellness, more research is needed to fully understand its long-term effects and optimal usage. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen, especially if you’re currently taking medication or have underlying health concerns. With the right information and guidance, CBD can be a valuable addition to your holistic approach to wellness.
